How to Keep an AI Character Consistent in Photos and Video
You generate a perfect portrait. The next image has the same hair but a different person. This is the most common problem in AI influencer work, and it comes from a few specific causes you can control.
Why the face changes
Image models do not remember your character. Every generation starts fresh, guided only by the prompt and any reference you attach. If either one is vague, or the two disagree, the model fills the gap with its own idea of a face.
Use one reference image, always
Pick one clear, front-facing portrait and attach it to every generation. Do not rotate between several favourites; each one pulls the result in a slightly different direction. If your tool has a character or identity feature, set it up once with images of the same face and keep using it.
Take the face out of the prompt
Describe everything except her features. Hair styling, outfit, pose, setting and lighting belong in the prompt. Age, skin tone and eye colour do not, because the reference already carries them. This single habit removes most drift.
It is the rule every prompt in our 5,000-prompt library follows.
Change one thing at a time
When a result is wrong, resist rewriting the whole prompt. Change the pose, or the lighting, or the setting, and generate again. You learn what the model responds to, and you keep what was already working.
Video needs locks
In video the problem multiplies: the character has to stay the same across several shots, and so does what she is wearing. Write the identity and the wardrobe once at the top of the prompt and state that they apply to every shot. Give each shot a time range, a camera position and one action. Add a short list of things that must not happen, such as changes to the face or outfit.
Prompt Atelier writes video prompts in this structure for Seedance 2.5.
Keep a character sheet
Write a one-page sheet with the reference image, her signature hair and style, her usual locations and the phrases that have worked. When you return to the project after a week away, the sheet stops you from reinventing her.
